Do dental hygienist have to wear scrubs?

I am thinking about becomming a dental Hygienist and I am wondering if you have to wear scrubs or can you just wear a lab coat? I ask this because my religion requires me to cover with a gown, and if I have to wear scrubs than i am just going to have to choose another field that does not have such requirements.

Do dental hygienist have to wear scrubs?
YES most offices require you to wear scrubbs. The doctor is the only person who wears lab coats. If your religion requires you to cover up then maybe you can find an office who also believes in your culture who is okay with you wearing a gown.
Reply:If you live in USA, I think most places will allow you to wear what you feel you must wear, or else they might be held accountable for the D word (discrimination) That's a good question though. Call an office and ask if it would get in the way, the only reason why I think you couldn't is if it interfered with your work.
Reply:You don't have to wear scrubs. Most hygienists wear simple comfortable clothes. You will need to check with the individual dentists as to their dress code policy; I don't think your required clothing should be a problem.
Reply:Yes, but I can bet you will find scrub like material and make your own if you can't find one already made. Tell your employer-to-be that your religion requires you to wear a certian style but the material can match what the rest of the office staff wears.

  1. Quite interesting post. I too have to purchase medical clothes and willing to try shopping figs scrubs online this time. At Wearfigs.com there is a wide range of figs scrubs for women. I might get a decent looking pair from this site.
