Dental assisting and then dental hygienist?

I am taking my prereqs to become a dnetal hygienist right now. I didnt know if i should become a dental assistant first, and then becoming a hygienist? Do you think it would give me an advantage to getting accepted to a hygienie school? Would this path help me out at all? Thanks

Dental assisting and then dental hygienist?
You will benefit tremendously from having any dental exposure before you start applying to hygeine schools. You'll gain a wealth of knowledge and get experience with all of the insturments that you'll be using.

Most practices will train for free as long as you're willing to work for a little less....though these are dependent on the area that you are in.

While you are there, definately ask to watch the hygeinst at least one time so you know what the hyeginst does and help her sterilize her insturments so you get used to the things that you will be using when you're in school.
Reply:I think u would benefit being a DA while your going to school to be a hygenist. You will be able to see and understand terminology as well as the field to make sure your happy with that decision...however I would not pay for DA classes. There are plenty of offices that will train with no expierience.
Reply:Yes being a DA will help you, but it is not necessary. Where I live in SC in order to be a hygienist you have to take some DA classes. So you can learn the basics. So there really is no need to pay for DA classes because when you go into hygiene you will have to take some of the same classes.
