I am interested in being a dental hygienist. I like the field so far, and understand there are certain thing that I dont really like (like doc talking down to you and benefits). I would like to know what the salary is in Nash TN. I am not looking to go into the career based on salary (it is based on what I like them will proceed...) but salary is a part of the job and want to live comfortably.
Dental Hygienist Salary Nashville TN?
According to the US Department of Labor, dental hygienists make between $22 and $38 an hour.

TENNESSEE:
I live in Tennessee near Chattanooga and I work in a large 3 DDS practice with 9 other women. I get a base rate of 130/daily plus 25% of everything I produce over $400./day. This makes my average about 25-26/hr. I also receive paid holidays, uniforms provided with laundry service, 1 week paid vacation, and free dental care for me and my immediate family or lab costs if applicable, parents and siblings get dental work at discounted rates, health insurance is available if I needed it. I have one to add for Memphis, TN. As of 7/99, pay ranges from $20 to $25 hourly.
An experienced RDH probably could expect to make $23 on up. If there is commission involved, the pay is usually higher. It is difficult to pinpoint though, it varies drastically whether you have experience or not.
Some dentists prefer a newly graduated RDH so they can train them the way they want them w/o the baggage of bad habits...and others prefer a RDH w/ experience for their speed/production. Benefits vary along w/ salary...again, it just all depends on the DDS. (1999)
I have practiced D.H. for 21 years and love it! I have a full time hyg. assistant and a part time hyg. assist. to schedule appointments. They both have an expanded function degree. I am salary plus commission. Last year I made around $75,000, $15,000 was put in my retirement by the DDS, and 2 weeks paid vacation. Not included in this amount was the commission I pay my assistants...approx. $5,000 per year. I live in Jackson, TN. I am sending this info. so more hygienists will demand the salary they deserve!!! I would think at least 185 - 200 per day for 8 hours I know I wouldn't take anything less than that. (8/01)
