Dental hygienist.....????

are there any out there??? Please give me your views on this proffession as a career. I am seriously considering going to school for it and i just wanted some feed back. Is it rewarding career?? Is the salary decent??? Please let me know!!!! Any input would help, thanks!!

You can pretty much make your own schedule being a hygienist... unless you want to work full time. It's a nice job if you have kids because you can be home with them at night and all weekend. Some people choose to work at 2 different offices. For example 1 day at a certain office and 2 days at another office. This is nice because you get to work with different staff and different types of patients.


The pay is usually very good. However, I work in Ohio and the jobs are somewhat hard to find because there are several hygiene schools.


Hygiene school is very hard! They make you do lots of silly reports and projects, and I had to find a lot of my own patients to work on. That is hard because a lot of people are already scared to go to the dentist! Plus, I hated going to school with ALL girls! They are so catty!


All of it was worth it though. It is a rewarding career and people generally respect you. It is however a profession that people get burnt out on somewhat quickly. Think about it... mostly all you do is clean mouths over and over again (with the exception of placing sealants). Just be sure that you really enjoy doing it and that you don't end up working for a jerk dentist!
Reply:i am a hygienist and i love it. the schedule is really flexible and i get paid a lot. pay also depends on your area.





however the job market is not so good in some areas. so it depends on where you live really.

*edit* for the person below me a dentist and a dental hygienist are 2 completely different professions.
Reply:well i absolutely love the dentist,believe it or not.but around here there are no female dentists that i know of.so if your going to be one it the state of C.T. let me know i'll be your first patient.
