Dental hygienist said in her country, use hydrogen peroxide?

My Hispanic dental hygienist said where she is from,

they gargle with hydrogen peroxide and it stops sore throats by killing the throat germs.

Is this right?

Dental hygienist said in her country, use hydrogen peroxide?
I grew up using warm salt water or peroxide for sore throats, mouth sores, infections etc. Look at some of the mouth products like Glyoxide or Colgates Phosphor(I think that's the name) Anyhow, the first ingredient is peroxide. My mom's oral surgeon told her the healthiest thing you can use in your mouth for good oral health is baking soda and peroxide.
Reply:kinda, check the label, you can gargle it.
Reply:You can it won't hurt you. Just make sure you don't swallow it.
Reply:Actually I have heard of that. It's supposed to taste really gross but be quite effective. I'd rather just gargle salt water personally. Hydrogen Peroxide bubbles up too much. Yech.
Reply:Yes but they say to water it down
Reply:Yes, it is. It works better if you have an infection more in your mouth. But, it will definitely fight the germs making you have a sore throat, also. Just make sure you read the directions on the label, and don't swallow any.
Reply:Yes it is true in the USA as well. I am an RN
Reply:i dont know that but if you brush your teeth with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda for a week or so they will be NOTICABLY whiter!!
Reply:i have heard that and i have done it as well, but you should use 1 capful hp to 1 cup of water! never use it straight with diluting it.
Reply:absolutely good for you...also, swish it between your teeth to kill bacteria hiding there, which lead to gum disease...but don't forget to floss and brush...but, yes..do not swallow it
Reply:yes it kills the germs just make sure not to swallow
Reply:Yes, I too have heard this. It also helps heal any sores or anything going on in the mouth. I use it regularly.
Reply:As a RN, I would never recommend this. It probably was a very diluted concentration.

The strength sold in drugstores is use to clean wounds by destroying cells...I strongly advise not to do this.
Reply:Yes I do it sometimes, but if you do it too much it kills the good bacteria also, you'll get this nasty black tounge.
Reply:yeah and you can use it to it to bleach your teeth as well mix it with baking soda and brush with it
Reply:My advice is to stay away from hydrogen peroxide. It's very dangerous stuff. More on that further down in my response.

You are better off gargling with some salt water. Just mix some salt (a teaspoon or so) with some warm water (cup or so). You'll have what is then referred to as brine. Gargle with that, and spit it out. If you swallow some of it, it's not a problem. As a matter of fact swallowing the last mouthfull is a good idea because the salt will kill any germs that might be further down your throat. The ones too far down your throat for you to get to by just gargling.

I saw a public service announcement on TV some time ago that showed a lab culture with germs inside it. Then someone dropped a grain of salt in the middle of the culture, and all the germs scattered away from it. It seemed they couldn't get away from it fast enough. The point being made is that germs don't like salt.

Now, about hydrogen peroxide. I got some of it on my hands sometime ago, and later touched my eyelids. It caused me to have blurred vision. I was later talking to a friend at a grocery store about it, and she told me that her eye doctor told her that hydrogen peroxide will blind (yes blind) you if you get it into your eyes.

Enough said (I think). Stay the hell away from that stuff.
Reply:You can do it, but hydrogen peroxide it toxic so don't swallow it. It really isn't a good idea though, I think the label even says something about not doing it.
