I just found out I'm pregant and I was wondering if there are any other dental hygienist to tell me how long they worked up until their due dates and how long they took off afterwards? I want to be able to discuss this with my boss and I'm not sure when to have him start rearranging my scheduled patients down the road??
Pregnant Dental Hygienist Question?
I worked up 'till the very end. It was hard to get close to the patients though and once my baby kicked a guy right in the head. That was really funny!!! The look on his face was like, "did I just feel what I thought I felt!"

Reply:We have had 9 pregnant women (both hygienists and assistants) in our office in the last 2 years and most worked right up until a couple of weeks before their due date with no problems. You wont really know how you will feel about working over a patient being huge, so I would just let your doc know that you plan on working as long as it is manageable for you, and arrange a temp hygienist to be "on call" about a month before you are due. Most girls in our office came back between 6-12 weeks. Congrats and Good Luck =)
Reply:I'm a pregnant dentist (but an employee, not owner). on third pregnancy.
1st preg: worked up until a week before the due date for the first one. went a day earlier. took 4 months off b/c of complications.
second pregnancy: scheduled c-section. worked until two days before. 6 weeks off.
third-will probably stop 2 days before scheduled c-sect. 6 sched weeks off.
family leave act requires your employer hold your job for you but doesn't require him to pay maternity leave. I was not paid. you should in good faith give your employer a return date.
