Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienist?

I am starting school here in GA to become a dental asst. but i am really wanting to become a hygienist. Its just that the school is far away and u go a lot longer and i heard that it was much harder. Is it a good idea to just go ahead and go to school for the assistant and see what its all about and then try for the hygiene later? Has anyone gone to hygiene school, is it as hard as ppl say? If anyone is in this industry, please share all the details! thanks!!

Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienist?
Dental hygiene school takes two years after pre-requisites. It's much harder to get in and graduate.

Dental assistants can earn up to $25 per hour, but only well-qualified people working in specialty offices. Entry level assistants earn slightly better than minimum wage depending on level of education.

Dental hygienists are revenue producers, usually set their own hours and working conditions, and can earn $45 per hour plus bonuses.
Reply:I don't really care what you do.
Reply:,You don't have to go to school for dental assisting, most assistants do not. In fact the two assistants that I've had that went learned nothing from what I can tell. It's a scam IMHO. Apply for jobs and be personable and work fast you'll be fine. Then you can see the field and if you still want, then go to school for hygiene.
Reply:I agree with other posters that you do not need to go to school for assisting. Try it and if you like dentistry, then go to dental hygiene school. The pay is better but I do not know of any who set their own hrs.
