Dental Hygienist?

Are you a dental hygienist? Do you know someone who is? I've done a lot of research on this career, but would like to hear first hand from actual people in the profession if this is a good career to go into. Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly! Is it easy to find jobs for this career once you're done w/ school? How hard is school?

Dental Hygienist?
I am a registered dental hygienist in the state of Mississippi. I absolutely love what I do. The Good: the money, flexibility, small work environment. The Bad: finding a job, may work for a mean dentist (I don't), not getting along with co-workers (I do). The Ugly: bad breath, unruly kids, non-compliant patients. I took me about two months to find a job and it is a 1.5 hour drive. School was difficult and took lots and lots of commitment.
Reply:I know a dental hygienist. I was actually considering becoming one too. The dental hygienist that I know, she works in Las Vegas, NV and she makes about $50.00+ an hour which is really good. As far as the schooling, I dont think its that hard. Not sure, try talk to your dental hygienist about it though.
Reply:One of my good friends is an RDH or registered dental hygienist. They can make really good money, but you do have to commit 2 years of your life to hygiene school and that is after you've taken and completed all of your general ed courses. In California, where I use to live, there is a 2 year waiting list for hygiene school. Once you've completed hygiene school, you have to take the board exam. Only once you've passed the board exam can you work as a hygienist.

You can get a little more information from Wikipedia.
