Dental Hygienist?

I am currently completing my Pre-Reqs to become a denta hygienist, i can apply this year YAH!!! I was wondering what was the pros and cons. What do you like the best what do you really dread doing? Let me know Thanks. Paied by the day or hourly? How much if you don't Mind

Dental Hygienist?
i am a dental hygienist in the US. the pay can really depend on where u live. i make about 270/day. some dentist pay by the hr and others pay by the day. i love giving anesthesia, but depending on ur state you may not be able to give anesthesia. the worst thing about hygiene is that it can seem that u are doing the same thing over and over. best advice i can give is to work for a updated office for doctors that allow u to use ur education.
Reply:In the UK, I found out that Hygienists earn between £25 to £34 an hour, but usually, they are all self employed, and they usually only work about 30 to 35 hours a week. Some only work 20 hours, but they often work at say, 2 or 3 different practises to ,ake up the hours. Those are the financial benefits.

The most obvious benefit is the reward you derive from helping people to become more 'dentally aware' by teaching them how best to look after their teeth. This, in itself, can be just as rewarding as the financial benefit.

Oh, by the way, I'm not a dental hygienist myself, but if I were, I would like to think I was making a worthwhile contribution towards helping people to look after their teeth more. A hygienist falls between a dentist and a dental assistant, but the pay is better than a dental assistant.

I imagine that there are a number of tasks that hygienists, as with any job, don't like tackling, but whatever you do, it 'goes with the territory'. People in the armed forces, the police and fire and rescue services should accept that whatever they do, should be tackled on the same basis.
Reply:I'm in my last year of hygiene school and so far I love it. the schooling is hard and alot of work, but its worth it if you enjoy what you do. I love polishing and doing fluoride treatments and placing sealents...everything is great. as for the pay...I obviously dont get paid yet, it I can tell you it depends on where you work. different offices work differently. my cousin was working at an office where she gets paid based on how many people she sees in a day. she then went to work for an office that paid her a straight $6000 a month. some pay by the hour. it all depends.
