Who Works Longer Harder Hours? Dental Hygienist or Physical Therapist?

I was just wondering, It seems like the hygienist makes less than the physical therapist but that also depends on how long and hard they are working. Anybody know for sure?

The hourly wage is comparable to a PT...earning between $26-35 dollars an hour...but many dental hienists have part time positions and might hold multiple jobs (according to the bls).

So, it sounds like there aren't as many full time positons open for DHs, but the earning potential is about the same. Being a DH is much more regimented than a PT...there will be more variability in your day as a PT. There is also more autonomy as a PT...so it really depends on what you want out of a career.

DHs are prone to neck and hand injuries due to prolonged time sitting and looking into patient's mouth. There is also risk of injury as a PT due to occasional lifting, but since the job varies more, the actual rate of injury I would believe is lower.

If you want a job where you know what you are going to do that day and that you do not have to make a lot of treatment decisions, I would choose the DH.

If you acutally like to make the decisions, you would probably prefer to be a PT.
